Scotland 2022 – Wildside Highland Lodges – Review

As we didn’t have a holiday during the summer school holidays, we decided to book a break in the October half term holidays. We had always wanted to go to Scotland so booked a lodge in a little village called ‘Whitebridge’ close to Loch Ness.

We found the lodge on ‘Hoseasons’ and went for a lodge with a wood burning stove and a hot tub!!!

Oliver and Matilda did a quick video tour of the “Osprey” lodge that we stayed in.

Below are the GOOD and BAD things regarding the lodge we stayed in:

GOOD
1. LOCATION
We wanted to be remote, away from busy towns etc and this place didn’t disappoint. To be honest, anywhere in the Highlands is like this. What was great was the ‘Whitebridge Hotel & Restaurant’. Its literally 5 minutes’ walk away from the resort and does a great range of food and drink.
2. ON SITE SUPPORT
The guys that looked after the resort were there in the morning and afternoon and certain times in case you needed them. We were left to our own thing and advised what to do if we needed anything. Friendly and welcoming team! The lodge had guides/books on the local area and some local walks etc.
3. LODGE STANDARD
Sometimes photos can be a little mis-leading on accommodation adverts. Some of the comments on the Hoseasons website were a little worrying too. However, the lodge was good. A little tired here and there, but it had been cleaned and there were all the essentials in there needed.
4. HOT TUB
One of the things we wanted was a hot tub. This was really good, clean on arrival and checked every day by staff. A little small if you had 4 adults using it but we were ok with 2 adults and 2 kids!
5. STOVE
The other thing we wanted was a stove. Was lovely and cosy and did come with some things to burn when we arrived. We bought some additional wood to burn on it during our stay!
6. WIFI
There is zero mobile phone signal and we had read the Wi-Fi was a bit sketchy. The “Osprey” lodge is the closest to the reception, so I think we got lucky with the Wi-Fi, as it was strong enough for us to use and the kids to watch YouTube/Netflix etc.

BAD
1. BATHROOM
The shower wasn’t the greatest pressure wise, and the bath felt like it was going to collapse as you were stood in it to shower. Not terrible but a bit of a pain!
2. VACUUM CLEANER
We wanted to keep the floors clear of bits and there is a vacuum cleaner in the lodge. However, each time we used it it was really smelly. Like it had been used to clean up wet dog! Again not the end of the world but a bit of a hassle.
3. OVEN
The oven wasn’t great, took ages to cook things!
4. SOFAS
The living room setup wasn’t very comfy at all for relaxing to be honest. A couple of nights we ended up going to bed early as it just wasn’t comfy on the sofa.

Overall, we were happy with the lodge. It’s a great base to go off exploring the area and has everything you need for your stay. I think the lodges in some areas are a bit tired and will need sorting eventually. We would definitely recommend though and wouldn’t hesitate to use again in the future. (8 out of 10)
